When it’s dark and gloomy outside, something sparkling and exciting is happening inside different locations in Helsinki, when Slush – the world’s leading tech conference – is gathering 20,000 extraordinary people together.
This conference is described “Burning Man meets TED” by many, so you can trust that something special is happening. This year Slush was again bigger and better – as it is every year. Slush is famous for its great speaker line up, and the ability to gather over 2,600 startups, 1,500 venture capitalists, and 600 journalists from over 130 countries.
Slush comes across as a massive extravaganza, and it’s amazing how such a massive project can be so well organised. Nevertheless, this year we wanted to find out what was happening behind the scenes and what was bubbling underneath of all the spectacular shows, startups, talks and parties.
We sent our own undercover agent Elina to explore the mystic and legendary side events to reveal what’s happening everywhere alongside the main events and minicast about them.
Slush Music started two days before the main Slush event and continued with an afterparty and other office parties. In addition, there was a sauna truck in front of Cabel Factory that everyone was free to visit!
There are many people with great Slush memories from the past years. Our agent tried to spot these Slush veterans at Messukeskus and other side events. We wanted to hear all about the magical encounters, sneaky surprises, amazing deals, high hopes, confessions, embarrassing and unforgettable moments!
There’s one guy, Peter Vesterbacka, who’s been in every single Slush since the beginning and in every single Slush event in the world. We got him to reveal the secret behind the success of Slush and Finland:
After hectic Slush days, there are always many after parties to attend to in different locations. There is one legendary side-event above all others , The Moni Afterparty. It’s so popular that the invites run out fast. Last year even a royalty was on the waiting list! This year the party took place in space, and there was no way to enter without an invitation. We got the Moni Space Captain Antti Pennanen to tell us how this party became so legendary and asked him if it’s possible to top this year’s party and go beyond this world, higher than space next year?
Slush17 was a blast! It would not be possible to pull off an event like this without the amazing startup community and all the volunteers, who worked hard to make it happen. Listen to the rest of their stories at Kieku Channel Slush Undercover!
