Step 1 : Identify your podcast topic and name your podcast.
Your podcast topic depends on your expertise and your personality. The main objective is to find a topic where you can speak freely and bring out your personality as much as you can.
If you have a topic which you are passionate, you can begin by asking yourself these questions:
- Why does this topic matter?
- Can you talk naturally about this subject?
- Can you produce enough content in and around your subject to keep your podcast going?
- Does the nature of your topic allow for other people to join in on the discussion? Is it controversial enough to collect different perspectives? (good question for conducting interviews)
- Do you have enough facts about your topic to share your information intelligently?
Once you have answered these questions you will have a much clearer vision for your podcast channel.
Now when you finally get down to naming your podcast, it can be a bit challenging to find the perfectly clever name to describe your show and allure your listeners. Reminder in such a case : a clear and simple name usually works best.
Step 2 : Determine the format of your show.
Different podcast experts offer their own ideal format for podcast shows, but eventually your format is entirely up to you as it’s your show!
Here are some essential basics to be considered before arriving on your ideal format :
length of the show. This can seriously be anything from 1 minute to 3 hours. It entirely depends on you. If your podcast is just about a short interview or a single thought that you want to publish, a very short recording will do just fine. But if you want to be like Joe Rogan and talk endlessly about your passions with your friends, then go for 3 hours. The best advice for this would be to try to make an example episode and then listening it. If it stays interesting till the end, that is your ideal length.
Publishing schedule. Your audience should be able to follow whenever you release your podcast episodes. Hence, Information on specific day and time of the week when your episodes are published is essential (e.g. new episode on every Monday at 6pm)
Structure of the show Is it a topic based talk show, interview based, product reviews, or something with a variety.
Step 3 : Recording equipment.
Although it is a good idea to invest in microphones to make the listening experience smoother. A bare minimum setup with just a smartphone can record your shows on the go.
Microphones and audio editing softwares available in the market can be found from a wide range of studio-quality expensive gear to gear which is safely within budget of a beginning podcaster.

If you want to edit your podcasts with your PC or Mac, the easy choice would be a free software called Audacity. You can download Audacity here:
Step 4 : Create your artwork
The very first thing you will notice in the list of podcasts on any website is the artwork of the podcasts. Podcaster’s name, topic and artwork all lead up to a person clicking on podcasts. So creating a clear artwork from your style/topic which can peak interest might work great for promotions. Artwork doesn’t have to be a stunning award winning photoshopped snapshot. Here too simple and clear is the choice.
Step 5 : Publish and promote your podcast
When you have recorded your podcast you can upload your podcast on www.kieku.com or download Kieku app from the iOs appstore. All you need to do to publish your podcast is to sign up, create your channel and upload your file.
The final task you will have on your hands when your podcast is published is to share your work. It’s a mistake to publish a podcast and hope people will automatically find it, you have to place it in the right spaces yourself. You can advertise on social media and also ask people directly to share your work. If you are interviewing someone with a following, simply ask the person to share the interview episode with their followers.
Speak and enjoy!
